Hitler-friendly Santas to be destroyed

 

Santas withdrawn for “Hitler salute”

BERLIN — A German retail chain withdrew Santa Claus statuettes after shoppers complained that they looked as though they were giving a Hitler salute.

The Rossmann chain announced over the weekend that the wooden yuletide figurines, showing Santa with his right arm held stiffly aloft, had been yanked from its 1,200 outlets and would be destroyed.

A spokesman for Rossmann said he was surprised by the complaints, as the Santas could also have been seen as simply pointing skyward.

Giving the Hitler salute is a crime in Germany.
