BERLIN—The National Democratic Party depty for Saxony, Klaus-Jürgen Menzel, was reported to police by the Central Council of Jews for expressing a favorable remark about Adolf Hitler. Menzel glorified the dictator* last Thursday in the TV magazine Kontraste (Contrasts).

The chairman of Jews in Germany, Paul Spiegel,** referred to Section 130, Paragraph 4, of the penal code, under which anyone who approves, glorifies or justifies the National Socialist regime can be sentenced up to three years in prison.

The NPD deputy continues to stand by his remark that he considers the Führer a great stateman, "perhaps one of the greatest whom we have ever had."

*In free, fair and closely monitored elections, this "dictator" attained majorities
far exceeding so-called "overwhelming" majorities of liberal-democratic politicians anywhere in history.

**Spiegel succeeded Michel Friedmann as head of the Central Council of Jews
in Germany following the former TV talk-show host's involvement in a drug and
prostitution scandal in 2003.
