BRUSSELS (Reuters)—A Belgian prosecutor has rejected Israeli arguments that his government does not have any legal authority to charge Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. He said the investigation against Sharon, on war-crime charges, would be resumed.

The statement was made in advance of hearings today at a Brussels court of appeals on whether there are legal grounds for charging Sharon with the massacre of Palestinians at Sabra and Chatila.
